something for myself

Exercising (or at least trying to exercise) every other evening, I have had a little less time available to sit at the sewing machine. And with a gorgeous Merino & Cashmere wool I’ve bought at El Corte Inglés in Barcelona, I have been knitting something for myself.

It may sound silly, but while sewing takes more time and logistics (even the machine is upstairs), if I can sit for half an hour in front of the TV, I already book some progress on the knitting.

But, as they say in Dutch, “beloofd is beloofd”: a promise is a promise. Tonight, I will make some time and finish a couple of nail polish bags and try to make some angels for the X-mas.

100% pure wool

Earlier today I went all that way to Haarlem to buy new felt. The webshop is open once a month, every 3rd Saturday of the month.

It was nice to literally look and feel the (high) quality of the products they offer. I run far above my initial budget, but also bought some special felt to make some X-mas presents (iPad sleeves for a couple of tablet lovers)

I have now a very good 100% natural material. But everything comes with a price: this felt is 50% more expensive than the acrylic mixed version I used to buy (and double the price of the cheap acryl only version). My products will become a bit more expensive, but we now have 100% pure wool.

One day I will find a way to replace the polyester filling with a natural alternative.

(re)posting: piglet family

My family name in Portuguese is Leitão. That translates literally to piglet. When you have a funny name, you can better embrace it 🙂

My cousin saw my little pigs and asked for a family. And here is the result: papa, mama and two little girls. I just need to put them together in a mobile.

07/Aug/2011 – Selling bats

(re)posting: Etsy Open

From September 7th until october 1st (2011), Etsy gathered almost 30 artists at a “real” shop in Leiden (NL). Everyday at least two of us was working there. It was a chance to meet the makers.

I brought the following items:

  • 8 owls
  • 6 bats
  • 2 mobiles with owls
  • 3 farms (cow, pig, sheep)
  • 6 pincushions

At the end, I sold quite well: 3 owls, all bats and 3 pincushions. The cheaper items sold better (as expected). Now some money to invest in X-mas ideas.
